Description: This class develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe range shooting activities and range operations.
RSOs ensure that the users of a range follow range regulations in order to reduce property damage and personal injury. RSO candidates will learn the roles and responsibilities of an RSO; range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and rules; range inspection points; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Books provided. Candidates for this certification must be 21 or older. Lesson materials provided.
We offer NRA RSO classes on the first Saturday of every month and additionally when a class when requested. (Check our Calendar for current dates, or contact us to request a class.)
Outcomes: The National Rifle Association's Range Safety Officer certification is a standard throughout the country. With this cert in hand you then contact the Range Safety Manager (or equivalent) for the range at which you hope to be an RSO (or, as a verb, "to RSO"). That individual will provide you with orientation to that specific range and its regulations, physical property, structures, and owner expectations.
There's a separate annual RSO credentialing fee payable to the NRA. You handle this online after class completion. More discussion of this in class.
